About the Temple
A living sanctuary of faith, yoga and healing in the heart of Dehradun.
A cave shaped by nature & divine grace
The Mata Vaishno Devi Cave Yoga Temple at Tapkeshwar, Dehradun, is modelled after the original Vaishno Devi cave. Much of the temple structure is entirely natural, and the site was established following direct divine inspiration received by the priest.
The cave itself is millions of years old — a place where sages and ascetics once performed penance, though the path to reach it was formerly extremely arduous. Since 1994, through the supreme grace of Mata Vaishno Devi, the cave has become accessible to devotees.
People from across the globe visit the Mata Vaishno Devi Cave Yoga Temple after first seeking the blessings of the nearby Lord Tapkeshwar Mahadev.
Deities of the divine cave
Within the natural cave, the temple houses three pindis (sacred stones) representing the Goddesses Kali, Lakshmi and Saraswati, alongside an idol of the eight-armed Goddess Vaishno Devi.

The 31-foot Hanuman Ji
A magnificent, south-facing idol of Hanuman Ji stands 31 feet tall and weighs 365 quintals. Devotees believe it has protected them through numerous calamities — including the severe natural disaster of 16 September 2025. Meditation and worship within the natural cave offer a new direction in life.
Sacred events & festivals
Religious events fill the temple calendar — Chaitra Navratri, Sharad (Durga) Navratri, the Gupt (secret) Navratris of Ashadh and Magh, Guru Purnima, Chaitra Purnima and Hanuman Jayanti (celebrated on Chhoti Diwali). Mahashivaratri, the holy month of Shravan and Chhath Puja also draw many devotees.
Preserving a living heritage
Under the sacred guidance of the temple’s founder, Yogacharya Dr. Bipin Joshi, the temple works to preserve and promote ancient sage traditions, yoga, spirituality and Indian cultural values — while safeguarding the divine essence of Devbhoomi Uttarakhand.
Efforts are also underway to transform Uttarakhand into a major wellness hub through yoga, meditation, naturopathy, Ayurveda and traditional healing practices.
